Richard Grimolizzi began playing piano at age 8 and later received a scholarship to Manhattan School of Music which he attended for 2 years. He earned his B.A. degree in Music from Brooklyn College.
After college in 1979 he began work as a piano tuner/tech and joined the NY Piano Technicians Guild in 1982. in 1981 through 1983 he has worked for Ted Primack, treasurer of the NY Guild (Keyboard Instrument) in Brooklyn prepping Kawai pianos. Throughout his career he has serviced the pianos of many classical / jazz artists (e.g. Ray Charles, Diane Walsh. etc.) both in the Catskill and Florida West Coast areas.
Since 1992 through the present time, Rich has worked as a piano tuner / tech for Pianos (Ken & Debbie Visser, 813-855-1227) Other retailers he works for include Dynamic Music (Gunther & Resa Schmidt, 727-772-5555) and Creative keys (Susan Haley, 727-736-8018).
For the last 12 years he has been the tuner / tech for the Tarpon Springs Performing Arts Center (Mike Raysses - stage director, 727-938-1915) as well the Suncoast Richey Theatre in New Port Richey, FL, and several others.
He has accompanied many artists, including Beth Mitchell of the Fred Waring singers and Peter Columbo at the Tampa Bay Performance Arts center in 1988. Rich has performed solo in several classical concerts, as well as playing gigs with his own group "Smoking Section" in Manhattan and various jazz bands. In the Catskills (summer 1983-1993), he worked as accompanist for nightclub acts at resorts.
One of his latest projects included a stint with Zenph Corporation as a transcriber of old recordings into a player piano format. (Parts of Glenn Gould's 1955 performance of Bach's Goldberg Variations and several tunes played by Art Tatum from a 1933 performance.)
His local gigs include playing for Mayor Fisher of St. Pete, Tampa Palms Crescent Oaks, Countryside & Tarpon Springs Country Club.
